President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy is convinced that Ukraine will be able to achieve progress in resolving the situation in Donbas only via political and diplomatic means. The Head of State told this on July 2 in Toronto, during a joint press conference with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
"I am convinced that we will achieve real progress only via political and diplomatic means. And in the end, we will force Russia to stop the escalation, establish a permanent ceasefire, ensure the separation of forces and the release of all Ukrainian captives. An effective instrument for that is the continuation of the policy of sanctions," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The President thanked Canada for the active and comprehensive support for Ukraine in this direction and in the consolidation of the international community with a view to assist Ukraine in counteracting Russian aggression and in the policy of sanctions.
"This issue arises in particular in the context of Russia's failure to comply with the decision of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea as regards the release of our 24 sailors and the return of captured Ukrainian ships," the Head of State added.
He also noted Ukraine’s interest in deepening cooperation with Canada in the military sphere. This concerns, in particular, the UNIFIER Canadian military training mission that will operate in Ukraine until 2022. The President called it a significant contribution to strengthening the defense capability of our country.
