A number of bilateral documents were signed in Istanbul in the presence of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who is on a working visit to Turkey, and President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Minister of Defense of Ukraine Andriy Taran and President of Defense Industries of the Republic of Turkey İsmail Demir signed a Memorandum of Intent between the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Presidency of Defense Industries of the Republic of Turkey on the projects in the defense-industrial sphere. The memorandum enshrines the desire of Ukraine and Turkey to develop their defense-industrial programs and strengthen defense capabilities, as well as to establish mutually beneficial long-term cooperation based on mutual respect and consideration of each other's interests. The document outlines the intentions of the parties to launch and implement joint projects for the construction of warships, UAVs and all types of turbine engines.
Minister of Defense of Ukraine Andriy Taran and Minister of National Defense of the Republic of Turkey Hulusi Akar signed a Framework Military Agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of the Republic of Turkey. The agreement is concluded in order to create a legal basis for the expansion and deepening of existing Ukrainian-Turkish cooperation in the field of defense, as well as defines the procedure for such cooperation. The document, in particular, defines the areas of cooperation, principles of cooperation, security regime of classified information, the procedure for exchanging intelligence information, legal regulation of the activity of specialists seconded by each party, compensation for possible damages, dispute resolution, etc.
Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine Ihor Petrashko and Minister of National Defense of the Republic of Turkey Hulusi Akar signed the Protocol of the Twelfth Meeting of the Ukrainian-Turkish Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation. The protocol enshrines the agreements, plans and objectives reached by government experts in the areas of trade, investment, energy, transport and infrastructure, as well as in the field of customs policy.
"We have a common vision of further cooperation in the field of security and defense, in particular security in the Black Sea and the implementation of Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic course," the President of Ukraine said after the procedure of signing bilateral documents.
The President stressed that the signing of the Framework Military Agreement between the governments of Ukraine and Turkey and the Memorandum between the Ministries of Defense of the two countries opens new opportunities for military and military-technical cooperation.
"Cooperation in the field of defense industry is crucial for the development of our strategic partnership, and I am very glad that today we have made it even stronger," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
