President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that after the accession of the Republic of Portugal to the G7 Joint Declaration of Support for Ukraine, our country is ready to start negotiations with this country on the bilateral document on security guarantees.
"Portugal has joined the G7 Joint Declaration of Support for Ukraine. Following the example of the United States and the United Kingdom, we have begun work on the preparation of a bilateral document on security guarantees, and we are ready to start working with Portugal," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during a meeting with media representatives following talks with President of Portugal Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa in Kyiv.
The Head of State reminded that since the beginning of the full-scale Russian aggression, Portugal has provided assistance to Ukraine, primarily in humanitarian and political spheres, supporting our country's European integration aspirations.
"We knew we needed to unite the EU. Not only around military assistance, but also humanitarian and, above all, political. Because political unity has an impact on everything else - on the supply of both weapons and humanitarian aid," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The President stated that they managed to build such strong relations between the countries that Portugal fully supports Ukraine on its path to the EU and NATO.
