President Volodymyr Zelenskyy considers it important that the People's Republic of China shows interest in the issue of ending Russia's war against Ukraine, and he would like to have more specifics on the steps proposed for a peaceful settlement. The Head of State said this at a press conference for Ukrainian and foreign media entitled "February. The Year of Invincibility."
Commenting on the position published on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China regarding the political settlement of the war in Ukraine, the President said: "It seems to me that it was not China's peace plan, not a resolution, not a declaration... I believe China has shown its thoughts on this. And the fact that China started talking about Ukraine is very good."
At the same time, Zelenskyy said that specific steps and the result they will lead to are important for Ukraine.
"I believe that there is respect for territorial integrity there. It does not indicate which country, but the territorial integrity of our state has been violated. It is about nuclear safety. I think it is very important. It coincides with the interests of the world and our state. There are some points that I understand. There are thoughts with which I do not agree," he said.
At the same time, the President said: if the principle of respect for territorial integrity does not provide for the withdrawal of all Russian troops from the territory of Ukraine, then this does not suit our state.
According to Zelenskyy, it is necessary to work with China on those positions where there is respect for international law, territorial integrity, and certain security matters.
"Our task is to bring everyone together to isolate the one," he said.
However, according to Zelenskyy, the subject and initiator of peace proposals can only be the state on which territory the war is taking place. And Ukraine has already proposed the Peace Formula.
"It was China's view and an important signal that they are going to engage in this issue. I take it that way. Then everything will depend on the next steps," the President said.
The Head of State expressed hope that China will be on the side of a just peace, that is, on the side of Ukraine.
"And it is important for me. I really want to believe that China will not supply weapons to Russia. It is point number one. And I am doing everything to prevent this," Zelenskyy said.
The President of Ukraine also said that he would like to meet with the leader of China, Xi Jinping.
"I believe that it will benefit our states and the security of the world. We have a large goods turnover with China. The issue is not only about war. The issue is that we are the states interested in preserving economic relations. As far as I know, China historically respects territorial integrity, which means it should do everything to get the Russian Federation out of our territory. Because it is what respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity is all about," the Head of State said.
