President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, who is on the first high-level visit to Ukraine since the declaration of Ukraine's independence.
The Head of State thanked India for supporting Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as for providing humanitarian assistance to the Ukrainian people.
“India supports our state sovereignty and territorial integrity, and this is crucial because everyone in the world must equally respect the UN Charter. And now, at the time of Russia's war against Ukraine, India is supporting Ukraine in a humanitarian way by providing humanitarian aid packages to our country. I thank the people of India for this,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The President also thanked India for its participation in the first Peace Summit and expressed hope for its signing of the Joint Communiqué and further active support for the Peace Formula implementation. The Head of State also invited Narendra Modi to attend the second Peace Summit.
During the meeting, the parties discussed prospective areas of bilateral cooperation: expansion of trade, economic and defense cooperation, India's involvement in post-war reconstruction, interaction in the fields of education, science and culture.
As a result of the talks, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Narendra Modi approved a Joint Statement that reaffirms the principle of respect for the territorial integrity of states and identifies key areas of bilateral cooperation. It also sets the goal of elevating relations between Ukraine and India to a strategic partnership in the future.
In the presence of the leaders, a package of bilateral documents was also signed on the development of relations between the two states in the humanitarian and agricultural spheres, as well as in the fields of medicine and culture.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Narendra Modi also inspected the Cube mobile medical unit, transferred by India, which can be used for tactical medicine, rapid deployment in emergencies and disaster areas. It contains triage and surgical stations, diagnostic tools and other necessary equipment.
