In Zaporizhzhia, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy joined the first classes held in a modern underground school, where 1,000 children can safely study in two shifts.
This is the first underground school in the region, a project implemented with financial support from UNICEF in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Science. The construction took six months to complete.
The underground educational facility is equipped with water supply, electricity, fire alarms, video surveillance, and ventilation systems, all operating autonomously. The classrooms feature interactive equipment and new furniture. The school also includes a playroom, a relaxation area, a cafeteria, and a medical room.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy toured the school, joined a lesson, and spoke with the children about their impressions of the facility and their favorite subjects.
“I congratulate you on having the opportunity to communicate, see one another, and learn,” the President said.
Currently, ten more underground schools are under construction in the Zaporizhzhia region, which will provide safe and comfortable learning conditions for over 8,000 children.
