During a working visit to the United States, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and First Lady Olena Zelenska visited the Memorial to the Victims of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine, which was opened in November 2015 in downtown Washington.
The Head of State and his wife put symbolic sheaves of wheat at the foot of the Memorial. After that, members of the official delegation of Ukraine honored the memory of the victims of the terrible tragedy of the Ukrainian people.
Chairman of the US Committee on recognizing the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people Mykhailo Savkiv and architect Larysa Kurylas, the author of the Memorial project, told Volodymyr Zelenskyy the story of the monument creation.
"This Memorial is an important symbol of the American people's solidarity with Ukrainians and a reminder of one of the most dreadful tragedies in the history of our people and of all mankind," the President of Ukraine said.
