During an official visit of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the Slovak Republic, a number of Ukrainian-Slovak documents were signed.
In the presence of the two heads of state, Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Vladyslav Krykliy and Minister of Transport and Construction of Slovakia Andrej Doležal signed an Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the Slovak Republic on the definition of conditions of using the specified part of the airspace of the Slovak Republic due to the provision of airspace maintenance services by a designated Ukrainian air navigation service provider at Uzhhorod International Airport.
In a statement to the media after a meeting with President of the Slovak Republic Zuzana Čaputová in Bratislava, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that one of the key issues in their talks was the resumption of full-fledged operation of Uzhhorod International Airport.
"Today we signed an agreement that will remove the last obstacles and allow us to resume regular flights to the city of Uzhhorod. This agreement is actually very important to me. This is one of the tools that allows us to 'sew' Ukraine together by restoring the air bridge between the west and the east," the Ukrainian Head of State said.
The President thanked his Slovak counterpart for a constructive position.
"We have agreed to complete the work on technical issues for the implementation of this agreement," he said.
The signing of the document will allow restoring the full functioning of Uzhhorod International Airport and connecting the Zakarpattia region by air with other regions of Ukraine, as well as foreign countries.
The agreement takes into account the security and defense aspects arising from the Slovak Republic's membership in NATO.
Vladyslav Krykliy and Andrej Doležal also signed a Memorandum between the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine and the Ministry of Transport and Construction of the Slovak Republic on cooperation in the field of combined transportation between Asia and the European Union through the territories of Ukraine and Slovakia.
The expediency of signing the document is due to the fact that our countries have common interests in the field of rail container transportation on the route Asia (China) - Europe (Slovakia).
"We also agreed to make the most of our transit potential. We are talking about combined transportation on the route Asia - Europe. Our countries are an important transport bridge, and our common position will be stronger if we create multimodal logistics centers for cargo handling on this route," the President of Ukraine said.
According to him, the memorandum signed today between Ukraine and the Slovak Republic on cooperation in the field of combined rail transportation will allow to continue the implementation of this project.
The document will facilitate the implementation of the project of creating multimodal logistics centers (terminals) in Ukraine and Slovakia for cargo handling on this route, which will ultimately strengthen the strategic position of the two countries as a transport bridge between west and east.
The memorandum will also make it possible to put into practice the implementation of the project, in particular, to form a relevant bilateral working group and create a basis for negotiations with the Chinese party.
