On International Volunteer Day, Ukraine’s First Lady Olena Zelenska visited the camouflage net weaving center of "Berehyni from Irpin" NGO.
The President’s wife expressed her gratitude to the volunteers for their contribution to Ukraine’s defense and noted that the Ukrainian volunteer movement is unprecedented – the largest and most dedicated in the world.
"Ukrainians protect each other with all their strength, becoming an example for the world," she said.
Over the past two years, this volunteer group has produced 32,000 square meters of woven nets and more than 171,000 square meters of perforated nets. A third of its members are internally displaced women from Kherson, Sumy, Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv regions, and Crimea. Among the locals, most have had their homes either destroyed or damaged due to the occupation.
The First Lady noted that similar volunteer workshops for weaving camouflage nets are now active in nearly every Ukrainian city and town, as well as abroad.
"So, if anyone hasn’t yet visited one, I strongly recommend finding the nearest workshop and celebrating Volunteer Day this way.Perhaps it is the safety meters you have made that will save someone's life at the front. Every pair of hands is crucial in creating protection for our warriors. This is no exaggeration," Olena Zelenska concluded.
