In the framework of Volodymyr Zelenskyy's working visit to the United States, documents in the energy sphere were signed

Two documents in the energy sector were signed in the presence of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who is on a working visit to the United States.

In particular, Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Galushchenko and Secretary of Energy of the USA Jennifer Granholm signed a joint statement of the Department of Energy of the United States of America and the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine on strengthening bilateral cooperation in energy and climate.

The document envisages strengthening bilateral cooperation on improving corporate governance at state-owned enterprises in Ukraine's energy sector, in particular by involving international independent supervisory boards.

The statement also stipulates the United States' willingness to assist Ukraine in developing more competitive and transparent energy markets, decarbonising the economy, and ensuring the country's energy security and export potential by developing and implementing a comprehensive energy sector plan that provides for mutually beneficial cooperation in the fields of nuclear energy, solar and wind energy, hydrogen, energy storage, carbon capture, use and storage, cyber and physical security, and other technologies.

In addition, Acting President of NNEGC Energoatom Petro Kotin and President and CEO of Westinghouse Electric Patrick Fragman signed a memorandum of understanding between the companies. The document envisages the involvement of Westinghouse Electric's technology for the construction of a nuclear reactor of the AP1000 project with an electric capacity of about 1.1 GW.

The implementation of the memorandum will provide an opportunity to attract investment for the construction of five units worth up to $ 30 billion - in addition to direct investment, part of the production will be localized, the budget will receive additional tax revenues.
