During a working trip to Zakarpattia, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy took part in the presentation of the Strategy for the Development of the Zakarpattia region until 2027.
The Head of State noted that he had already visited the region several times, and expressed regret that thousands of tourists could not visit Zakarpattia this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
"But I believe that we will definitely overcome the virus, and your region will again hospitably open its doors to guests from Ukraine and all over the world. I can assure you that the tourism potential of the region and infrastructural conditions for the people of Zakarpattia is an important issue for me," the President said.
The Head of State said that during his recent visit to Slovakia, an agreement was signed that would allow resuming full operation of Uzhhorod International Airport and regular flights for all residents of the region.
Our “Great Construction” program is also ongoing and will be even more active next year. In addition to new roads, schools and hospitals, we will begin a large-scale restoration of castles, museums and other cultural heritage sites," Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed.
He also reminded that last week the Verkhovna Rada passed a presidential bill providing benefits to the tourism industry of Ukraine.
"We do not stop on this path so that our regions, including Zakarpattia, can fully unleash their tourism potential," the President said.
In addition to tourism, according to the President, Zakarpattia has good potential for the automotive industry, prospects for creative and innovative economy, development of ski infrastructure, production of organic products, including viticulture and winemaking, and has significant reserves of mineral resources.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that Zakarpattia shares borders with four EU countries and is a multicultural region where people speak many languages and belong to different denominations. The highest point of Ukraine, the geographical center of Europe, and the longest lime alley in Europe are located in this region.
"We understand all the advantages of Zakarpattia, we understand what the region lacks, and we will help local authorities to make this region successful. I really want all citizens to understand that the local elections on October 25, for the first time in the history of Ukraine, will be so decisive for the future of each region. You will choose people who will receive much more money and authority through decentralization. Therefore, please take the time on October 25, so as not to regret it for the next five years," the Head of State said.
