There is a decrease in the incidence of COVID-19 for the seventh week in a row in Ukraine - meeting with the President

There is a positive trend in the situation with the incidence of COVID-19 in Ukraine according to all indicators. This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a conference call chaired by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Today in Ukraine out of 77 thousand beds in hospitals equipped for patients with COVID-19, 27,841 beds are occupied, or 36%.

"It's much less than two weeks ago. For the seventh week in a row, the decrease in the incidence of the disease continues. The number of people who have recovered is growing. There are no "red" zones left. Eight regions are in the "orange" zone. The rest are in the "yellow" zone, but there is a certain increase in morbidity in relation to the day - this is due to increased social contacts on holidays," said the head of government.

In this regard, citizens are urged to continue to comply with quarantine restrictions.

Minister of Health Maksym Stepanov reported that on May 9, another 500,000 doses of CoronaVac vaccine manufactured by Sinovac Biotech arrived in Ukraine.

Separately, he touched upon the topic of influenza vaccination in the fall of 2021, proposing to purchase 2.5 million doses of vaccines for the main risk groups.

"I would like to receive a comprehensive strategy for the vaccination program in Ukraine. We are talking not only about COVID-19, but also about other necessary vaccinations," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in response to the minister's proposal.

The President also insists that Ukraine agree on a strategic partnership with vaccine manufacturers.

"The production of these vaccines should be located in Ukraine. We have to talk about an integrated approach and interaction," he said.

The Head of State stressed the need to have adequate facilities to be able to quickly launch the production of COVID-19 vaccines in the country, if the decision is made at the international level to open public access to the COVID-19 vaccine formula.

Vaccination of those who signed up for vaccination through the "Diia" application was also discussed at the meeting. The President supported the proposal of the Minister of Health to introduce certain days, namely weekends, for the vaccination of these people. There are currently 532 thousand of them.

In addition, the parties discussed the issue of introduction of electronic sick leave certificates, which will begin on June 1, 2021 in a pilot format in 200 hospitals, and will be fully operational from September 1 this year.

Work is underway on the implementation of "COVID-19 passports". Ukraine is waiting for European models to agree its own documents with them.
