President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the number of European Union member states that support Ukraine's European perspective in writing at the bilateral level will soon increase.
"This year we started preparing bilateral declarations with EU countries in support of Ukraine's European perspective. When Ukraine and the European Union decide that Ukraine can be a member of the EU, the country with which we sign this declaration will definitely vote for us," he said in an interview for ICTV as part of the Freedom of Speech program.
The President reminded that four member states of the European Union have already signed such declarations, and three more documents will be signed in the near future. "That is, there will be 7 countries out of 27. Step by step, we will do it. I really want that, so we will move forward," Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed.
He noted that President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and President of the European Council Charles Michel support our country and note the progress in the implementation of reforms, which was mentioned, in particular, in the Joint Statement following the 23rd Ukraine-European Union Summit.
"But we understand that Ukraine's membership in the European Union must be supported by 27 EU member states," the President added.
The President of Ukraine noted that there are countries with which more work will be needed on this issue. Therefore, appropriate work and communication with each state continues.
