Sanctions Policy and the Approach to a Just Peace: the Office of the President Hosted a Meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye

Advisor and Presidential Commissioner for Sanctions Policy Vladyslav Vlasiuk met with Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Ukraine Mustafa Levent Bilgen.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the importance of exerting sanctions pressure on Russia to achieve peace, as well as issues of bilateral cooperation.

Vladyslav Vlasiuk highlighted the significant progress made by the Turkish side in preventing schemes that allow the Russian Federation to acquire banned goods and technologies.

“We value our cooperation, where you promptly respond to information on certain instances of sanctions evasion involving Turkish companies, and we see significant progress,” he said.

Mustafa Levent Bilgen assured that the Government of Türkiye is seriously committed to preventing sanctions evasion, particularly in oil transportation.

“Türkiye continuously monitors the new sanctions lists issued by the Sanctions Coalition and makes its own announcements, informing about companies subject to sanctions,” he said.

According to the Ambassador of Türkiye, most Turkish companies take this into account to avoid the risk of secondary sanctions. Additionally, the Republic of Türkiye supports efforts to counter the shadow fleet and sanctions evasion.

The Advisor and Presidential Commissioner also stressed the importance of not only complying with the imposed sanctions but further strengthening them as an instrument of influence. This will limit the Russian Federation’s ability to finance the war and compel the aggressor state to establish a just peace.
