The development of organ transplantation in Ukraine may become part of healthcare reform - a conference call with the President

More than 5 thousand Ukrainians are waiting for organ transplantation. Conditions for the development of this branch of medicine in Ukraine have not been provided, so many citizens are forced to conduct operations abroad. This was announced by Minister of Health Maksym Stepanov at a traditional meeting chaired by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

However, the Ministry of Health has created a separate unit for the development of transplantation in Ukraine now.

"We need to take a very decisive step towards the development of transplantation in our country. First, such operations in Ukraine are five-six times cheaper than abroad, and therefore they are more accessible to Ukrainians. This increases the chance of saving life. Secondly, such a high-quality service at a lower price can attract foreigners," Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed.

According to Maksym Stepanov, the Ministry of Health is already expanding the list of hospitals that can provide organ transplantation services. He believes that the development of transplantation can be part of healthcare reform.
