Volodymyr Zelenskyy: Russia intensified air attacks on Ukraine because it failed to capture Bakhmut by May 9

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is convinced that the increase in the intensity of attacks with missiles and Shaheds by the aggressor state is due to the fact that the enemy failed to demonstrate to its society significant victories by May 9, including the capture of the city of Bakhmut.

Answering questions from the media representatives after talks with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen in Kyiv, Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that the military and political leadership of the Russian Federation needs to "sell" something to its society, but it has no significant victories on the battlefield.

"But the voracious society is there, and we see it supporting certain radical actions, the number of deaths. They are always happy about it. They failed to "sell" Bakhmut because they failed to capture it. It was their last important operation - to do it by May 9. Although, unfortunately, there is no such whole city there anymore, everything is completely destroyed," the Head of State said.
