The NSDC Considered Lowering Medicine Prices and Imposed New Sanctions

The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine held a meeting chaired by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to consider lowering the prices of medicines and extending the sanctions policy.

In particular, the meeting addressed the need for the Government, manufacturers, and pharmacy chains to draw up a list of one hundred medicines that will be subject to a 30% price reduction starting March 1. A decision will also be made to regulate the mark-up on medicines based on the cost set by the manufacturer, to inspect final prices and to monitor the use of medicines in medical institutions.

“The Government must present all the details to the public. The changes must be tangible and positive for millions of Ukrainians. This is the personal responsibility of government officials, particularly the Minister of Health,” the President stressed.

Previously, the Head of State instructed the Government to analyze the “Affordable Medicines” program, to audit the domestic production market of medicines and pharmacy chains, and to develop proposals that will allow the lowering of medicine prices.

The NSDC also considered and approved another package of economic sanctions.

‘The billions that were earned, essentially, by selling out Ukraine, Ukraine's interests, Ukraine's security must be frozen and must be used to protect Ukraine and Ukrainians. And this will happen. For sure,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted.
