NSDC submitted the National Security and Defense Strategy

The meeting of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine was held under the chairmanship of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. In the framework of the meeting, the National Security and Defense Strategy "Security of a Human - Security of a Country" was approved.

As a result of the meeting, the NSDC approved the draft Strategy and submitted it for approval by the President.

During a meeting, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov said that the key aspects of the Strategy were human security and security of a country.

"For the first time, the document focuses on the person’s life, health, honor, dignity, integrity and security," he said.

According to Oleksiy Danilov, the Strategy stipulates that the highest priority and the main task of the state was to establish peace as a prerequisite of the country's development. But this should not happen at the cost of losing sovereignty and our territories.

The strategy is based on three main principles of state policy in the field of national security: deterrence (development of defense and security capabilities to prevent armed aggression against Ukraine), resilience (ability of society and the state to quickly adapt to changes in the security environment and adhere to a sustainable functioning through minimization of external vulnerabilities), interaction (development of strategic relations with key foreign partners, first of all with NATO, EU and USA).

The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council also informed that the priorities of national interests were the following: defending the independence and state sovereignty; restoration of territorial integrity within the internationally recognized borders of Ukraine; social development, first of all human capital; protection of the rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of Ukrainian citizens; European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

At the same time, Oleksiy Danilov stressed that the Strategy was a declaration, the approval of which would be the basis for the development of other strategic planning documents in the field of national security and defense, which would determine the ways and tools for their implementation.

"The ultimate goal of the Strategy is to establish a free, prosperous, safe country where the rule of law prevails, where everyone has the right to fulfil oneself, where people breathe clean air, drink clean water, where the future of children and grandchildren is associated with this country," he said.

Oleksiy Danilov noted that the EU advisory mission to reform the civil security sector of Ukraine (EUAM) sent a letter approving the proposed draft Strategy.
