UN resolution on payment of reparations to Ukraine to become basis for compensation from aggressor country – Head of State

The adoption of a resolution on the mechanism for reparation for damages caused to Ukraine as a result of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation by the UN General Assembly will become a political basis for the further transfer of Russian assets that are currently frozen in various countries of the world to our state. This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at a meeting with media representatives on the occasion of the Day of Radio, Television and Communication Workers.

According to the Head of State, on the basis of this resolution, the leaders of the states will be able to make appropriate decisions and explain them to their societies and businesses.

"After that, we can think about the real mechanism. It is built differently in each state. But when you have such a decision, you have to go that way. Long or short, but we will have to go," Zelenskyy added.

According to him, the mechanism of UN resolutions is an important tool in the diplomatic field, because the adoption of the resolution and the voting results become an argument in the dialogue with the representatives of the countries that supported the document and give an understanding of how to build relations with certain states.

The President also expressed the opinion that the adoption of the resolution on the creation of a special tribunal on the crime of aggression against Ukraine will be more difficult.

"We understand this, because it is a serious challenge. Because how many such cases have there been in history? Therefore, there will be very serious resistance. And it will be a major victory for us if we can do it. We will press," the Head of State said.
