Olena Zelenska: Superhumans Project for Treatment and Rehabilitation of Wounded Will Be Scaled Up to the Entire Country

First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska took part in the opening of the complete medical complex Superhumans Center Lviv.

During her speech, she noted the work of the prosthetics and rehabilitation center. Next year, Superhumans will open in Odesa with the support of the French government. The center will provide a full cycle of assistance to patients with amputated limbs: from psychological support, prosthetics and rehabilitation to reintegration into civilian life.

"This is just the beginning of scaling up across the entire country, which we are implementing together with the Ministry of Health. And this is the principled position of the state: assistance must be accessible to everyone and provided as close as possible," said the First Lady.

The first block of the Superhumans Center Lviv was opened at the state hospital in Vynnyky, Lviv region, on April 14 last year, with the support of the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, the Lviv Regional Military Administration, and other donors and partners. Later, a state-of-the-art laboratory was established with the help of industry leader Ottobock.

In February this year, a ward fund with 70 beds and a surgical department with high-tech operating rooms, its own sterilization unit, and intensive care units were opened. Complex facial surgeries are performed here. There is also a hearing restoration department and a 3D printing facility, where parts for prosthetics can be produced.

"In just over a year, the center has become a leader in reconstructive surgery. In cooperation with the world's leading surgeons, you are saving the faces of children and adults. Hundreds of prostheses have already been printed on a 3D printer. I am happy and proud to be involved in this," summarized Olena Zelenska.

The Superhumans Center was established by the Ministry of Health with the support of the First Lady of Ukraine and international donors. Since then, it has treated more than 500 patients, fitted nearly 650 prostheses, and performed more than 100 surgeries.
