Prolongation and mitigation of quarantine were discussed at a meeting at the President's Office

The government plans to continue quarantine measures since the peak period of coronavirus infection has not passed - it is expected in early May. This was reported at a traditional meeting chaired by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy to combat the epidemic.

The parties also considered various options for quarantine mitigation for the sake of psychological support of citizens and starting the economy.

“We need to tell people exactly when and what will be opened, what a clear government action plan is. The peak incidence is expected in early May. People need to understand whether it will be possible to walk in the parks, when the barbershops, notary's offices, lawyers and other businesses will start working. I know that Olympians want to start training to maintain their physical conditions. All people should have a clear vision of how and when quarantine can be mitigated,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that the quarantine measures must first be mitigated in non-critical infrastructure, which could play a role in stabilizing the economy.

He also stressed that Ukraine has introduced quarantine in a timely manner. Therefore, it still manages to avoid a critical situation with the number of patients.

The parties also discussed further providing the country with means of protection. The Coordination Council for Combating the Spread of COVID-19 has organized the procurement of assets for the next three weeks. Further supplies will be provided by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, which already organizes procurement under the simplified procedure.

National police informed the President of Ukraine that quarantine has reduced crime rates overall, but the Internet fraud rate has increased by 15%. In particular, online scammers are trying to arrange fake sales of protection means.

"Ukrainians need to be especially cautious and buy products, things and means of protection on proven websites, while all online fraudulent platforms must be closed," the Head of State said.

In addition, the parties heard the report on the situation with fires in the Zhytomyr region. It is now returning to normal.
