In Brussels, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
The President thanked Ursula von der Leyen for her personal efforts in consolidating EU unity around Ukraine. He emphasized that a common stance between Ukraine and all other European countries is crucial for achieving a just peace.
The key topics of the talks included the priorities of the new European Commission and Ukraine’s accession to the EU. The President noted that Ukraine is counting on the opening of two clusters at the start of Poland’s presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The meeting also addressed the use of frozen Russian assets for Ukraine's needs. Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for the new EU macro-financial assistance in the amount of €18.1 billion under the G7 loan framework and noted that Ukraine expects to receive the first tranche in January 2025.
