On the Day of Remembrance of Defenders who died in the struggle for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with members of the families of fallen soldiers.
The meeting was also attended by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, Head of the President's Office Andriy Yermak and government representatives.
"I want to thank you for the meeting. On this tragic day, we meet with the families of the fallen defenders. I express great respect and gratitude to you, all relatives and friends of those who gave their lives for Ukraine," the Head of State said.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed the extremely great contribution of fallen soldiers to preserving the independence of our state.
"Great people gave their lives for children and grandchildren, the next generations to celebrate the independence and inviolability of Ukraine," he added.
The President noted that such meetings should be held annually to understand what problems the families of the fallen defenders of Ukraine have and how the state should solve them.
In particular, the social, pension and medical support of military families was discussed during the meeting today.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also stressed that during 2021-2022 it is necessary to resolve the issue of the queue for housing for the families of victims of hostilities in eastern Ukraine and veterans.
"Our task is to close the entire queue for housing compensation for the families of the dead and veterans during the rest of this year and 2022," the President said.
The participants of the meeting also discussed the issue of legislative consolidation of the status of defenders of Ukraine. In particular, they touched upon the issue of social guarantees, which need to be defined in a separate law.
