During an extraordinary plenary session of the Verkhovna Rada, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on the MPs to approve bills needed to continue Ukraine's cooperation with the International Monetary Fund, which will support the Ukrainian economy given the coronavirus pandemic and the global economic crisis.
“Today, the support for the economy of Ukraine, for the people who work at enterprises is very important to us. It is very important to us to sign a memorandum with the International Monetary Fund,” the Head of State said during a parliamentary session.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that in order to continue cooperation with the IMF, the Verkhovna Rada needs to approve bills on agricultural land circulation and on the banking system.
The Head of State noted that MPs may have complaints about certain bills, however any political confrontation is inadmissible nowadays.
"We should not be divided into a pro-government party and opposition now. We cannot have any opposition during a crisis caused by coronavirus disease,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed.
The President said that it depends on the voting of the people’s deputies whether Ukraine will receive a very important support for the economy.
“I urge you to support these bills. They are important for the Ukrainian people,” the Head of State said.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also thanked the MPs for their personal protection measures.
"I am grateful to each of you for wearing masks. I am truly grateful that at such a difficult time for the country caused by coronavirus and the spread of this virus across the globe, we convene and you are working. That is why I want to applaud each of you,” the President said.
He also thanked the parliament for the appointment of Minister of Finance of Ukraine Serhiy Marchenko and Minister of Health Makym Stepanov.
