President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Federal President of Germany discussed the progress in implementing reforms in Ukraine

During a working visit to Germany, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Federal President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

The interlocutors paid attention to the security situation in eastern Ukraine. Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that our country is doing everything possible for a peaceful settlement in Donbas.

The presidents also spoke about Ukraine's aspiration to become a member of the European Union and NATO and about the way to achieve this goal. Ukraine's progress in implementing reforms and achievements in defending common European values testify to the readiness of our state to fully join the European and Euro-Atlantic communities.

The parties exchanged views on progress in implementing key reforms in Ukraine, in particular in the areas of the judiciary and the fight against corruption.

Separately, the President told the Federal President of Germany about the anti-oligarchic bill put forward by him. He noted that the implementation of the provisions of this bill together with other legislative innovations will ensure the separation of big business and politics in Ukraine.

For his part, Frank-Walter Steinmeier stressed that the law should provide more transparency and improve the business climate in Ukraine so that German entrepreneurs will be more interested in investing in Ukraine.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy informed his German colleague about the current situation with the COVID-19 pandemic in Ukraine. He stressed the importance of further practical support from the European Union, in particular Germany, in providing vaccines to the population of Ukraine.

The parties also stressed the importance of preserving historical memory and restoring historical justice, which is being actively pursued in both countries.
