President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy is convinced that the military and political leadership of Russia will be brought to justice for war crimes committed in Ukraine, and he hopes for the help of the Netherlands in this process. The Head of State stated it at a press conference for Ukrainian and foreign media entitled "February. The Year of Invincibility."
"The main thing is to complete the justice case," the President said, emphasizing that killing so many people cannot go unpunished.
The crimes committed by the aggressor and its army in Ukraine were extremely terrible, they killed and injured a large number of people, so it is impossible to simply "find a way out of the situation," as suggested by some politicians, Zelenskyy is convinced.
"What does "exit" mean? What happened when so many people were killed? It is the leader of Russia, the leader of a great state. And they must be responsible. It is not a child who broke something, and you can forgive. It is another age when you have to answer for a crime. Answer before the law, before the court," the President said.
"It is a tragedy – so many people have been killed. Therefore, someone has to be liable for it. And I believe in accountability to happen," he added.
According to Zelenskyy, much will depend on the help of partners, in particular the Netherlands, in the process of prosecution.
As the Head of State said, the strength of the Dutch legal system is that sooner or later cases are brought to an end.
"That's why I really hope that, as it was with MH17, the same with the war in Ukraine – together we will bring this case to court and just punishment," Zelenskyy said.
