Argentina can contribute to the unification of Latin America around Ukraine and play a leading role in the implementation of the Ukrainian Peace Formula. This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an interview with Latin American media in Buenos Aires.
"We are interested in Argentina playing a key role in the Peace Formula as a highly desirable representative from Latin America. We need support from all continents. Here we see a great nation with this desire and capabilities," he said.
"Second. I am very interested in uniting Latin America around Ukraine. For us, this is uniting around the truth. I am interested in the Ukraine – Latin America summit. And here I would like Javier Milei to help us in activating and organizing such a platform," Volodymyr Zelenskyy added.
The Head of State noted that specific agreements would take time for the teams of both countries to work out all the issues. However, he noted that during the conversation with President of Argentina Javier Milei on the occasion of the inauguration, he had received a positive signal on the topics in which Ukraine is interested.
"We are powerful today in the military, security, and digitalization sectors. And I said that we are ready to cooperate in this direction, share our experience, and take yours. We are absolutely open about this, because the security issue is number one today," Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated.
He also believes that Ukraine and Argentina can cooperate in other areas, including energy, to increase trade between the two countries.
The President noted that Russia has always been directly or indirectly involved in the conflicts that are breaking out in different parts of the world, which is why the security issue is so important, including for Latin American countries.
"We must be on the same side here. We all want peace and security to prevail," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
Answering the question why he chose Argentina as the first country to visit among Latin American countries, the Head of State noted that the invitation to the inauguration of President Javier Milei and his position on Russia's aggression against Ukraine contributed to that decision.
"His position is very clear on condemning Russian aggression and supporting Ukraine. It is not ambiguous, without any extra content. It is just a very specific position. Therefore, of course, I wanted to thank him on our behalf and discuss the Peace Formula and other points where we can cooperate," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
He noted that Argentina is one of the largest countries in the region that has an impact on Latin America as a whole: it is viewed as a leader.
"I see the people of Argentina supporting the people of Ukraine today. And we hope that more Latin American countries will join us in the future. You are important to us," the President of Ukraine said.
