In connection with the construction of gas pipelines bypassing Ukraine and challenges in the energy sector, in particular the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project, which contains direct threats to national security and the security of the entire region, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed order No. 545/2021-rp on September 16, creating a working group to develop proposals to manage the relevant risks.
As noted in the document, the working group should prepare proposals for arrangements to prevent and mitigate negative impact on the state from the construction of gas pipelines and develop proposals to reduce certain threats in the security and energy sectors.
By this order, the Head of State also approved the members of the working group. Head of the President's Office Andriy Yermak heads the group. It includes, in particular, Head of the Security Service of Ukraine Ivan Bakanov, CEO of the National Joint Stock Company Naftogaz Ukrainy Yuriy Vitrenko, Minister of Energy Herman Haluschenko, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov.
According to the document, the head of the working group, if necessary, can make changes to its composition and involve representatives of executive authorities, scientific institutions, public associations, as well as independent experts in the work.
