During an official visit to the Slovak Republic, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Prime Minister of Slovakia Igor Matovič.
The parties focused on the ways to expand cooperation in such areas as bilateral trade, transport, energy, and cross-border cooperation.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed hope that the joint efforts of the governments of Ukraine and Slovakia will intensify work in all areas, which is also important for minimizing the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the economies of the two countries.
"I highly appreciate the fact that the program of the government headed by you reflects the support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, the European future and the reform process in our country," the President of Ukraine stressed.
He noted the priority importance for Ukraine of signing the Agreement on the resumption of full operation of Uzhhorod International Airport. It was agreed that the work on technical issues related to the implementation of this agreement will be completed in October.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Igor Matovič agreed that maximizing the transit potential of Ukraine and Slovakia should be a strategic priority for cooperation between the two countries.
The parties discussed the prospects of cooperation in the organization of combined transportation on the route Asia (China) - Europe (Slovakia), as well as the creation of multimodal logistics centers (terminals) for cargo handling on the route. The interlocutors praised the signing of the Memorandum between the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine and the Ministry of Transport and Construction of Slovakia, which should facilitate the realization of the transit potential of our countries.
The parties also exchanged views on cooperation between Ukraine and Slovakia in the field of energy and energy security. The parties agree that the Nord Stream 2 should be considered as a political project that undermines the energy solidarity of European countries.
The parties discussed further steps to implement Ukraine's European and Euro-Atlantic integration. Volodymyr Zelenskyy outlined the key priorities of cooperation between Ukraine and the EU.
