President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Secretary of State of the Holy See Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy praised the Cardinal's personal contribution to strengthening cooperation between Ukraine and the Vatican. The President also thanked the Secretary of State for his visit, during which he went to Ukrainian cities.
“This is a strong signal from the Holy See, thank you for such support. And we are grateful for your participation in the Summit in Switzerland. This is the first step towards peace, all steps are valuable. It is important that you also support this. We all understand that we must complete this path as soon as possible in order not to lose human lives,” the Head of State emphasized.
The President of Ukraine and the Secretary of State of the Vatican paid special attention to the decisions of the first Peace Summit in Switzerland and the role of the Holy See in building a just and sustainable peace for Ukraine.
The interlocutors also discussed the results of Volodymyr Zelenskyy's meeting with Pope Francis this June on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Italy. The Head of State thanked Pope Francis for his prayers for peace in Ukraine and for calling for the return of Ukrainian prisoners to their homeland.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Pietro Parolin discussed in detail the consequences of the Russian aggression against Ukraine, the continuing aerial terror, including the Russian missile attack on the Okhmatdyt children's hospital, and the difficult humanitarian situation in our country.
