President Volodymyr Zelenskyy offered to organize a joint holding of one of the next European Basketball Championships (Eurobasket) by Ukraine and Lithuania. He stated this at the opening of the Fourth Conference on Reforms in Ukraine "Strong Ukraine in a Strong European and Euro-Atlantic Family" in Vilnius.
"It is known that basketball in Lithuania is a second religion and truly a national sport. And, despite the total love of Ukrainians for football, basketball is also very popular in our country. So I want to put forward the idea of a joint organization of one of the next European Basketball Championships (Eurobasket) by Ukraine and Lithuania," said the President of Ukraine in his speech.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy reminded that such a tournament could have been held in Ukraine in 2015, the relevant infrastructure was being prepared, but for objective reasons this event did not take place.
"Therefore, the idea of holding a basketball tournament together is not just about implementing a large-scale project in this area. I am convinced that for Ukrainians and Lithuanians such an initiative will be a good opportunity to join forces and prove that we are capable of holding great events of a truly global scale," said the President of Ukraine.
