In Ukraine, the number of infected per day is still higher than the number of recovered. Therefore the number of people with COVID-19 is still increasing. Over the past 24 hours, 456 new cases have been reported, 111 people have recovered. This was reported at a daily conference call for the prevention of coronavirus spread chaired by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
All 11 people who died in the last 24 hours had serious comorbidities, including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and lung problems. This complicated the course of COVID-19 and led to death, Minister of Health Maksym Stepanov explained at the meeting. He added that the average course of illness in Ukraine from the moment of detection to the negative PCR test, i.e. recovery, lasts 18-21 days.
On the eve of May holidays, the Head of State urged the Ministry of Health not to reduce the number of tests on weekends and holidays.
“On weekends and holidays, the number of tests should be the same as on weekdays, so that the day after the holidays we do not “lose” new patients receiving new outbreaks afterwards. Timely detection of infection helps the patient and prevents the spread of the disease. This year, holidays really require compliance with the rules by both the authorities and the people. But this is only to ensure that we can all enjoy the holidays in the coming years,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed.
The Chernivsti and Ternopil regions, as well as the city of Kyiv remain the leaders in terms of COVID-19 incidence.
