President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a meeting with Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, who is visiting Ukraine in the framework of holding the session of the Parliamentary Assembly of Ukraine and Lithuania.
The Head of State thanked the Republic of Lithuania for consistent political, financial, humanitarian support and defense assistance to our country since the first days of the full-scale war with Russia.
“We are especially grateful for the strengthening of our army, for training missions, repair of damaged military equipment, medical assistance and rehabilitation of our military,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted.
During the negotiations, the parties stressed the importance and principled nature of more than ten resolutions in support of Ukraine adopted by the Seimas of Lithuania since the beginning of Russian aggression. The President of Ukraine noted the significant personal contribution of Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen to the adoption of documents, as well as the Speaker's decisive personal position on critical issues for the protection of the interests of our state.
At the meeting, it was separately emphasized that Russian aggression and missile terror against Ukrainian civil infrastructure provokes a shortage of energy supply not only in Ukraine, but also in the whole Europe.
In this context, the importance of the already initiated participation of the Lithuanian side in the reconstruction of Ukrainian infrastructure objects damaged as a result of the Russian invasion was noted. The interlocutors emphasized that the arrested and frozen Russian assets should be allocated to restoring Ukraine.
The importance of punishing all those guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in our country, including the crime of aggression, was also emphasized.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen discussed further cooperation on the path of European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine.
The Head of State separately thanked the leadership of Lithuania for the warm welcome and assistance to Ukrainians who were forced to leave their homeland due to the war.
At the end of the meeting, the President of Ukraine presented the Speaker of the Seimas of Lithuania with the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise of the II degree, which was awarded to Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen for significant personal merits in strengthening interstate cooperation and support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
