President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a phone conversation with President of Slovakia Zuzana Čaputová. The President of Slovakia expressed gratitude for the embroidered shirt sent by the Ukrainian President on the occasion of the International Day of Vyshyvanka.
The parties exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine and Slovakia with the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and the measures taken by the governments of the two countries to overcome the effects of the crisis and restore economic activity.
"Few countries have been able to take control of the epidemic, as Slovakia has done. I wish you strength and good health to overcome the challenges posed by the pandemic. My condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and wishes of the recovery to the sick," the President of Ukraine stressed.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked his Slovak colleague for the humanitarian aid provided by Slovakia to Ukraine to combat the spread of coronavirus.
The President briefed his interlocutor on Ukraine's latest steps in adopting key reforms and asked for the further support for our country in cooperation with the EU and international financial organizations.
The parties discussed political dialogue measures for the near future and topical issues of bilateral cooperation. Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed belief that the continuation of active political dialogue at all levels will contribute to the economic recovery of Ukraine and Slovakia and overcoming the negative consequences of the pandemic. The Head of State stressed the Ukrainian party is interested in signing the Ukrainian-Slovak agreement as soon as possible, which will allow Uzhhorod International Airport to resume its work.
"This airport is extremely important for Ukraine and the Zakarpattia region. I expect quick approval of the agreement by Slovakia. I am also convinced that after the end of the quarantine measures, our governments should make joint efforts to restore the dynamics of cooperation in trade, economic, transport and cross-border areas," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
Zuzana Čaputová reiterated the invitation to the President of Ukraine to pay an official visit to Slovakia, which was gratefully accepted.
During the conversation, special attention was paid to the security situation in Donbas and the state of implementation of the Paris Summit agreements in the Normandy format. The President of Ukraine thanked Slovakia for its continued support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
