President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a constructive and meaningful phone call with Prime Minister of Spain Pedro Sánchez.
The Head of State thanked the Spanish government for its unwavering support of Ukraine and recent decisions made following the meeting in the Ramstein format, particularly the approval of a powerful defense package.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also expressed gratitude to Spain for sheltering more than 180 thousand Ukrainians who were forced to flee their homes due to the full-scale Russian invasion.
The President informed his interlocutor of the situation on the battlefield, recent massive Russian shelling of Ukraine's energy infrastructure and the difficult situation in several regions of our country.
In this context, the interlocutors discussed further defense cooperation between the two countries, in particular, bolstering Ukraine's air defense system to protect the skies from aerial attacks by the terrorist state.
"It is extremely important for us to protect people and major industrial centers. It is crucial for the economy and the return of people home," the Head of State emphasized.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted Spain's active participation in the implementation of the Ukrainian Peace Formula. The leaders agreed on further cooperation in the context of the preparation of the inaugural Peace Summit, as well as joint work with the countries of the Global South.
The interlocutors also focused on the preparation of a bilateral security agreement and agreed on a further schedule of political contacts for the near future.
