President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a phone conversation with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
The interlocutors discussed the aggravation of the situation in the Middle East following attacks on coalition forces in Iraq and attacks on the US Embassy in Baghdad. The parties agreed that any further aggressive steps could endanger regional stability and global security. The President of Ukraine expressed concern over the possible aggravation of the situation in Iraq and the region if US and coalition forces leave the country prematurely.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy informed Mike Pompeo of the results of the agreements reached during the Normandy meeting, as well as the plans of the Ukrainian government to restore peace in east Ukraine. Mike Pompeo particularly noted the release of captives and welcomed the conclusion of an important contract for the transit of gas to Europe.
The President of Ukraine thanked for the continued support of the United States in the issue of restoring peace in east Ukraine and returning Crimea. Volodymyr Zelenskyy also expressed his gratitude to President of the United States Donald Trump and Congress for the decision to provide financial and material assistance to the security and defense sector of our country.
The parties agreed to discuss these and other issues in detail during the meeting between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the US Secretary of State.
In addition, the parties exchanged greetings on the occasion of Christmas holidays.
