In Moldova, on the sidelines of the second summit of the European Political Community, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a joint meeting with Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania Edi Rama and Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia Dimitar Kovačevski.
The President expressed gratitude to the leaders of the Balkan countries for their consistent comprehensive support of Ukraine and practical assistance in the fight against Russian aggression, as well as in the realization of European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations of our state.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy paid special attention to the expected results of the NATO summit in Vilnius. He emphasized the need for NATO member states to determine a clear algorithm for Ukraine's movement towards NATO membership.
"Specific decisions on Ukraine's further movement towards membership and on the security of our country for the period until we join the Alliance are what will allow us to consider the Vilnius summit successful," the Head of State emphasized.
The President informed foreign leaders of Ukraine's active work on the path to EU membership. He emphasized the progress in the implementation of seven recommendations of the European Commission, which should allow beginning negotiations on accession to the EU this year.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy praised the accession of the Balkan countries to all EU sanctions packages against Russia and expressed hope for the continuation of such a coordinated sanctions policy.
The Head of State expressed hope for the active participation of Albania and North Macedonia in the practical implementation of the Ukrainian Peace Formula as the only peace plan capable of ensuring a just and lasting peace in Ukraine and Europe.
The President emphasized the need to consolidate international efforts to bring Russia to justice for the crimes committed in Ukraine. He thanked the Prime Minister of North Macedonia for joining the Core Group on the establishment of a special tribunal for the crime of aggression against our country. He also expressed hope that Albania would join this important work.
