President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy supported the elaboration of a roadmap for the further development of the Eastern Partnership initiative and its adoption at the Sixth Eastern Partnership Summit in 2021.
During a video conference of Eastern Partnership leaders, the Head of State expressed hope that such a meeting would take place early next year.
"I hope that this will happen in early 2021 and not online, but during a live meeting, where we will be able to shake hands consolidating new decisions and important agreements," the President of Ukraine said.
Separately, Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Croatia for a successful Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the current half of the year and wished a successful Presidency to Germany in the second half of 2020.
During a video conference of Eastern Partnership leaders, the parties stressed that the main tasks for the future are to overcome the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, expand the initiative and develop long-term rules of action after 2020.
The interlocutors noted that important issues now are strengthening integration in Europe, opening new markets and building infrastructure for high-quality communication.
The parties noted that the priorities of the Eastern Partnership are the democratization of the economy, good governance, including the fight against corruption, the rule of law, the problem of climate change, and the digital transformation of the economy. The importance of involving civil society in government decision-making was also emphasized.
In addition, attention was paid to bringing closer the cessation of military and resolution of frozen conflicts in the region, combating misinformation, increasing investment and dynamics of reforms in the region.
