The negotiations on the return to a comprehensive ceasefire in Donbas on the eve of Easter holidays are at the final stage. This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy speaking to the media during a visit to the Chornobyl nuclear power plant (Kyiv region).
"The meeting of the Trilateral Contact Group, especially the working group on security issues, will be continued on April 27. It seems to me that all parties have already agreed on everything. They have not yet agreed only on the documentary formulation of this accord. We really want that. I really want there to be no shots, no casualties on Easter. The Ukrainian side has already done everything for this," the Head of State said.
According to the President, it is necessary to do everything possible so that the temporarily occupied territories of Donbas do not turn into a new "exclusion zone".
"Here at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant, we see the result of such tragedies, and now we have such a terrible phrase as "exclusion zone", where there is no life, people… I do not want the same tragedy to happen in Donbas, I do not want Donbas to turn into an exclusion zone. And while none of us - me, you, society, the government - can go back in time and prevent the Chornobyl tragedy, we still can do everything today to prevent the tragedy that, God forbid, can happen in the occupied Donbas," Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized.
Answering journalists' question about the possibility of a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Ukrainian President said that "everything indicates that it is going to happen".
"I offered - you heard it - to meet in Donbas. The President of the Russian Federation confirmed willingness to meet, but invited me to meet in Moscow. I have already instructed Head of the President's Office Andriy Yermak to contact Putin’s administration and agree on the timing and venue of the meeting. I believe that the main thing is content. And where and when are the details," the Head of State said.
