Living a normal life in peaceful cities and villages of Ukraine, we must not forget those who defend our Homeland, its independence with weapons in their hands. This was emphasized by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his speech during the solemn oath-taking ceremony of the lyceum students of the Ivan Bohun Military Lyceum of Kyiv on the Day of the Defender of Ukraine.
"Today we all bow to our warriors for a peaceful sky and sleep in Ukrainian cities and villages. We get used to the good very quickly, we perceive it as a normal state of affairs. But we must not forget: when we have dinner at a restaurant, go on a picnic with friends, play with children, have fun, travel, in short - live, there are those who defend our Homeland with weapons in their hands day and night, in all weather so that all of us can live a normal life, so that Ukraine is independent,” the Head of state emphasized.
The President urged citizens to never forget the feats of soldiers and to thank them every day, not only on the Day of the Defender of Ukraine.
He noted that today's holiday concerns not only men, because there are many brave and strong women and girls among Ukrainian soldiers who, not giving in to men, courageously perform their hard duty.
"Today we thank them all: brave men and women, boys and girls from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard, the State Border Service and other security agencies. We thank volunteers, doctors and everyone who serves the Homeland," Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed.
The President noted that the Day of the Defender of Ukraine is a holiday of brave, indomitable, courageous and invincible people.
"The day of those thanks to whom we are here, on our land, under our blue and yellow flag, in our own, free and independent Ukraine. The day of those who have defended our land for centuries. And defended Ukraine from the Russian aggression in 2014. And continue to defend today," he stressed.
The President noted that this war brought enormous losses to Ukraine, and the most painful of them are human lives.
"The lives of the best sons and daughters of our people who died for our independence, for Ukraine," the President added.
The attendees honored the memory of the fallen warriors with a moment of silence.
