Any missile or drone strike, any critical incident in the energy system of Ukraine, could lead to a nuclear disaster. This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his speech at the UN General Assembly.
The Head of State thanked the members of the General Assembly for adopting a resolution on the safety of nuclear facilities in Ukraine this July.
“Most in the world understand – what’s at stake. The General Assembly demanded that Russia return control of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant to Ukraine. Only then real nuclear security will return to Europe and the world,” the President said.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that Russia is targeting Ukrainian power plants and the entire energy grid. The aggressor state has already destroyed all thermal power plants and a significant part of Ukraine's hydroelectric capacity.
“Recently, I received yet another alarming report from our intelligence. Now, Putin does seem to be planning attacks on our nuclear power plants and their infrastructure, aiming to disconnect the plants from the power grid. With the help of satellites, by the way, of other countries, Russia is getting images and detailed information about the infrastructure of our nuclear power plants,” he noted.
This can lead to a nuclear disaster, and Russia will understand this only through the determination and pressure of the world. The President urged everyone to unite and support the Peace Formula, where the issue of nuclear safety is the first point.
