During a working trip to Sumy region, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a coordination meeting with the military command and heads of law enforcement agencies on the situation in Sumy region.
Representatives of the military command reported to the President on the operational situation, the protection of the Ukrainian-Russian section of the state border, the arrangement of defense lines, and the air defense of the region.
The Head of State was also briefed on the consequences of the shelling of Sumy region by Russian troops using aircraft, drones, and artillery, the number of which increased significantly in 2024. The President also listened to the report on measures to protect civilians and critical infrastructure.
The participants of the meeting paid special attention to the situation in the five-kilometer border zone, evacuation of the population from dangerous areas and maintaining order in these areas. In the area of information security, work is underway in Sumy region to increase coverage of Ukrainian broadcasting and block Russian propaganda.
Head of the Sumy Regional State Administration Volodymyr Artiukh informed Volodymyr Zelenskyy of the social and economic situation in the region.
The President instructed the relevant authorities, in particular the State Property Fund, to create conditions for the resumption of normal business activities.
The Head of State also heard information from the heads of the regional departments of the Security Service of Ukraine and the National Police on the security and criminogenic situation in Sumy region. Among other things, they discussed counteracting enemy subversive and reconnaissance groups, illegal trafficking in weapons and prohibited substances, and combating fraud, particularly against Ukrainian servicemen.
