During a working trip to the Sumy region, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Sumy Regional Academic Theater of Drama and Musical Comedy named after M. Shchepkin and granted national status to it.
During a conversation with the creative team, he informed that the theater was granted the status of "National" and a relevant presidential decree was signed.
"Granting national status is not a gift from the President or the government. This is a really fair and objective assessment. Because you, the theater, deserve it," Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized.
The President added that the theater was founded in 1933.
"Do you really have to wait 100 years to get national status?" he remarked.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that the state should support culture more, especially theater.
"Today we grant the status of a national theater. This is a cultural landmark of the Sumy region, so I greet the whole Sumy region, and I greet Ukraine as a whole. The authorities must support such things. I think this is a great motivation for the entire staff of the theater," the President said during a conversation with media representatives in the Sumy region.
That is why, according to the President, the second stage of the implementation of the National Program "Great Construction" envisages not only restoration of museums and cultural monuments, but also granting status to institutions that develop Ukrainian culture.
