President talked to the schoolchildren of Hostomel about the cities of heroes liberated from Russian occupation

During a working trip to Kyiv region, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy took part in a thematic lesson "Cities of Heroes. Ukraine's Victories in the War" held at Lyceum No. 1 in Hostomel for 10th grade students.

The lesson was devoted to the events at the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February-March 2022, primarily the key battles for the Antonov airfield in Hostomel, the occupation of cities and communities in Kyiv region, and the pivotal battle for the village of Moshchun.

The students told the Head of State about their understanding of the significance of these events and their own experience of the full-scale Russian aggression. Children whose relatives and friends are currently defending Ukraine at the front also shared their stories.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted the importance of such lessons, which remind us of how the defenders of Ukraine defended Kyiv region in the spring of 2022.

"This is a very important victorious event for the entire country. It is important that everyone in Ukraine knows how our warriors defended and continue to defend Ukraine," he emphasized.

By the end of the 2023-2024 school year, a series of lessons "Cities of Heroes. Ukraine's Victories in the War" dedicated to the liberation of settlements in different regions of our country from Russian occupation will be conducted for middle and high school students across the country.

At Lyceum No. 1, the President also saw the devastating consequences of the Russian aggression. During the hostilities in 2022, almost all the facilities of the educational institution were destroyed.

At the expense of state and local budgets, charitable and non-governmental organizations, and international funds, the restoration of the educational institution and the arrangement of a shelter was completed. On September 1, 2022, the lyceum resumed its work in a blended format.

More than 1600 students study at this institution. They have achievements at various levels of national subject Olympiads and in writing scientific research papers for the Junior Academy of Sciences. In 2023, a student of the lyceum became a bronze medalist at the International Geography Olympiad.
