During his working visit to the United States of America, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with the Ukrainian community in New York and handed over state awards.
The President noted that in many countries of the world Ukrainians preserve long-standing national traditions.
"I think you are our best ambassadors. Because you are defending our state, our sovereignty, territorial integrity abroad," Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed.
The Head of State noted that the Ukrainian community in the United States is quite active.
He suggested the introduction of dual citizenship for Ukrainians living abroad. At the same time, Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that it is impossible to grant dual citizenship to those people who live on the territory of unfriendly states. Therefore, this issue should be considered carefully and without haste to anticipate all the complicated moments.
"This is a complicated issue, but all the difficulties will be resolved due to our energy, our desire," said the President.
The President also stressed the importance of restoring respect for Ukraine and Ukrainian history.
"Respect is measured by concrete things. Today you can fly home and drive on beautiful roads," added Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
He noted that the restoration of historical landmarks in Ukraine is underway.
"This is respect for the history of our country. This year marks the anniversary of restoration of our independence, our state. That is why we are restoring (historical landmarks - ed.)" said the President.
He stressed the importance of restoring peace in Ukraine.
"This requires all the efforts and pressure of foreign representatives: embassies, leaders of different states, church leaders - all those who feel that they can do something to restore peace. That is why each of you must do everything possible to restore peace in our country," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The President also handed over state awards to the representatives of the Ukrainian community in the United States.
