During a working trip to the Odesa region, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy got himself acquainted with the state of liquidation of the consequences of the Delfi tanker accident.
"I talked this morning - everyone is ready, what do you need? There should not be a story that people worked five or six nights, and then went to rest on the weekend. What do you need to organize the pipeline work, involve (the experts needed - ed.)?” the President noted addressing the representatives of the company engaged in lifting the tanker.
"Now there are very important stages to prevent the ship from cracking," a company representative said.
The Head of State stressed that the work to eliminate the accident should have started in November 2019. However, the shipowner showed his irresponsibility and actually forgot about the tanker.
Minister of Infrastructure Vladyslav Krykliy noted that the Ministry is ready to provide round-the-clock underwater lighting and divers.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for high-quality work on the elimination of the accident.
"July 20 is a landmark. If there was a shipowner here, I would talk to him frankly and strictly. Because I'm sure it's his responsibility in everything, starting with what he transported, where and for how long it all lasts. If there is no result on July 20, the law enforcement bodies must start working. The owner wanted to save money and looked for the least resistance. Someone must bear responsibility," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
