During a working trip to the Zakarpattia region, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy got himself acquainted with the Uzhhorod International Airport reconstruction project.
Head of the Zakarpattia Regional State Administration Oleksiy Petrov told the President that the airport needed to be modernized because the systems were outdated and ground equipment and mechanical equipment had depleted their resources. According to him, even the design and estimate documentation, which was developed in 2015, has lost its relevance because the technologies have been updated.
"It's a shame that the airport is in such conditions given that it is almost the only air connection with the whole of Ukraine for Zakarpattia. As of today, the connection is very weak. We need to make it more powerful," the Head of State stressed.
According to him, the issue of modernization of the airport is relevant, given the agreement signed on September 24 in Slovakia, which will allow the resumption of regular flights to the city of Uzhhorod.
"We have already promised to restore all the airports that the country needs. Uzhhorod can be one hundred percent sure that everything will be done properly here," Volodymyr Zelenskyy added.
According to Minister of Infrastructure Vladyslav Krykliy, the first passenger flights are planned for the beginning of November.
