During a working trip to the Odesa region, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy got himself acquainted with the work of the Avanhard Center for Public Safety established last year.
The main goal of the Center is to increase the effectiveness of civil and fire protection of the population, help citizens eliminate the possible consequences of accidents, catastrophes, natural disasters. It serves 30,000 people. Over the year, the Center helped extinguish 120 fires.
The Head of State inspected the room where the citizens’ phone calls are answered. The Center has a single number that receives calls from the public in order to respond quickly to emergencies. The staff said that the work of the single rapid response number at the level of united territorial communities is not regulated at the legislative level. Therefore it is possible to reach them by known numbers of emergency services - "101", "102", "103".
"This is a very important issue and it needs to be addressed. After all, residents of territorial communities should receive emergency assistance by a single telephone number," the President said.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also inquired about the technical features of fire trucks and auxiliary rescue equipment.
"In fact, this Center is an example of how the system of interaction of rescue services in each territorial community should be built," Head of the Odesa regional state administration Maksym Kutsyi said.
At the same time, only one of 92 united territorial communities of the Odesa region has such a center.
"There is an example, and then everything depends on each community. But, in my opinion, this is a qualitative example of how the community can organize itself and help every resident," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
