President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who visited Ukraine for the fourth time since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
The President expressed gratitude to Canada for its unwavering support.
"Thank you, Justin – especially for your leadership. We are deeply grateful to the Canadian people for their support, as well as for the military and humanitarian assistance. You have truly done a lot," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The main focus of the meeting was reliable security guarantees for Ukraine, including NATO membership. Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of the principle: "Nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine, nothing about Europe without Europe." He stressed that Europe must be represented at the negotiating table to achieve a just and lasting peace.
The leaders also discussed international efforts to support Ukraine within Canada’s G7 presidency.
In particular, the parties discussed the consolidation of international efforts to support Ukraine under the Canadian presidency of the Group of Seven.
Another key topic was defense cooperation. The President thanked Canada for its significant contribution to Ukraine’s security and financial assistance, highlighting the importance of supporting procurement from Ukraine’s defense industry.
The Head of State also outlined Ukraine’s urgent need to strengthen air defense.
The parties discussed the continuation of sanctions against the aggressor state, particularly tightening restrictions on Russia’s shadow fleet and oil sector.
Justin Trudeau emphasized the importance of supporting Ukraine and achieving a just peace. He also presented Volodymyr Zelenskyy with a Canadian national hockey team jersey.
