President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy participated in the Taras Shevchenko National Prize Ceremony.
The President thanked the laureates and organizers of the event.
"It is a great honor for me and my wife to attend this ceremony," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
The President recalled the words of Winston Churchill when, during World War II, one of the ministers proposed to increase defense spending at the cost of culture funding.
"Winston Churchill replied to this: “What are we fighting for then?” Dear Ukrainians, we are fighting for our country, for our culture. Because culture is a state, culture is our people,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed.
